马尔代夫风景如画，民风淳朴，被誉为“上帝洒落人间的一串珍珠”，吸引了全世界无数人们向往的目光。百闻不如一见。我期待着访问这个美丽的印度洋岛国。

Known as “a string of pearls that God left in thehuman world” and with its simple and warm-hearted people and picturesquescenery, Maldives is a magnet attracting tourists from around the world. Buthearing it one hundred times from others is not as good as seeing it once, andI look forward to visiting your beautiful island country on the Indian Ocean.

中国和马尔代夫友好交往源远流长。早在中国明代，中国航海家郑和就率领船队两度到过马尔代夫，马尔代夫国王优素福也3次派遣使者来华。今天，马累国家博物馆中陈列着当地出土的中国古代瓷器和钱币，成为两国友好往来的历史见证。

The friendly exchanges between China and Maldiveshave a long history. As early as in China’s Ming Dynasty, the famous Chinesenavigator Zheng He twice called at Maldives with his expedition fleet, and KingYusof of Maldives sent his envoys to China three times. Today, ancient Chineseporcelain ware and coins unearthed locally are on display in the NationalMuseum in Malé, which bear witness to the friendly interactions between the twocountries.

1972年，中马两国正式建立外交关系。40多年来，双方始终相互尊重、相互信任、相互支持，两国关系堪称大小国家平等相待、友好相处、互利合作的典范。近年来，中马各领域交往日益频繁，务实合作不断深化。双边贸易保持快速增长势头，旅游合作发展势头迅猛。中国连续4年成为马尔代夫最大游客来源国，马尔代夫成为中国民众特别是年轻人心目中度假胜地和浪漫天堂。中方为马尔代夫发展经济和改善民生提供了力所能及的支持。事实证明，中马两国不仅是真诚互信、互帮互助的朋友，更是携手发展、共同繁荣的伙伴。

In 1972, China and Maldives established diplomaticrelations. In the 40-plus years since then, our two countries have alwaysrespected, trusted and supported each other, setting a good example ofcountries different in size treating each other as equals, living in amity andengaging in mutually beneficial cooperation. Recent years have seen growingexchanges in various fields and enhanced practical cooperation between the twocountries. Two-way trade and particularly tourism have grown rapidly. China hasbeen the largest source of tourists for Maldives for four years running. To theChinese, especially the young people, Maldives is an ideal holiday destinationand a romantic retreat. China has endeavored to assist Maldives in growing itseconomy and improving people’s livelihood. All this shows that China andMaldives are not only sincere friends who trust and help each other, we arealso partners in the common pursuit of development and prosperity.

“潮平两岸阔，风正一帆悬。”当前，中马关系处于新的上升期，面临重要发展机遇。我们要抓住机遇，乘势而上，巩固中马传统友谊，深化各领域合作，推动中马关系不断迈上新台阶。

As an old Chinese poem puts it, “The river is wideat full tide; a strong wind sends the sail surging forward.” China-Maldivesrelations are now on a new upward trajectory and face major opportunities. Weshould seize the opportunities and keep the momentum of our growing relations,boost our traditional friendship, intensify cooperation in various fields, andlift China-Maldives relations to a new height.

中马双方要增强政治互信。中方感谢马尔代夫政府坚持一个中国政策，在涉及中国核心利益问题上一贯给予中方宝贵支持。中方一向主张国家无论大小一律平等，将一如既往尊重马尔代夫人民根据自身国情选择政治制度和发展道路。

China and Maldives should strengthen politicalmutual trust. China appreciates the Maldivian government’s commitment to theone China policy and its abiding and valuable support to China on issuesaffecting China’s core interests. China always stands for equality of allcountries, whether big or small. China will, as always, respect the choice ofthe political system and development path made by the Maldivian people in lightof your national conditions.

中马双方要深化务实合作。中方积极倡导建设21世纪海上丝绸之路。马尔代夫地处印度洋要道，是古代海上丝绸之路的重要驿站。中方欢迎马方发挥自身优势，积极参与21世纪海上丝绸之路建设。中方愿意同马方一道努力，推动这一合作倡议愿景早日转化为现实，带动各国发展繁荣和亚洲整体振兴。

China and Maldives should intensify practicalcooperation. China calls for the creation of a 21st century maritime silk road.Strategically located in the Indian Ocean, Maldives was an important stop ofthe ancient maritime silk road. China welcomes Maldives to get activelyinvolved in building the 21st century maritime silk road by leveraging its ownstrength. China looks forward to working with Maldives to speedily translatethis cooperation initiative into reality so as to boost the development andprosperity of all countries and the rise of Asia.

中马双方要密切人文交流。中国中央电视台拍摄的《魅力马尔代夫》播映后，更多中国游客来马尔代夫亲身感受椰林树影、水清沙静的迷人风光。中方也欢迎更多马尔代夫公民赴华旅游和留学。中国鼓励两国政府提高人员往来便利化程度，两国航空公司开辟更多航班，真正做到中马“相知无远近，万里尚为邻”。

China and Maldives should boost cultural andpeople-to-people exchanges. After Fascinating Maldives, a program produced byChina Central Television station, was aired in China, more and more Chinesetourists have been attracted to Maldives by its coconut trees, clear waters andquiet beaches. China also welcomes more Maldivians to go to China forsightseeing and study. Our two governments should further facilitate travelexchanges and our airline companies should open more routes. With theseefforts, we will feel close even when we are thousands of miles away from eachother.

中马双方要加强多边协调。中方视马尔代夫为南亚和印度洋地区的重要伙伴，愿意继续在气候变化和人权等领域同马方开展密切合作。中国乐于看到马尔代夫在国际和地区事务中发出更多声音，发挥独特作用。

China and Maldives should enhance coordination onmultilateral issues. Maldives is an important partner of China in South Asiaand the Indian Ocean. China will continue to pursue close cooperation withMaldives on climate change, human rights and other issues. China hopes thatMaldives will have a greater say and play a unique role in international andregional affairs.

中马友谊之舟已经扬帆远航。我相信，在双方共同努力下，它将乘风破浪，驶向更加美好的明天。

The ship of China-Maldives friendship has set sail.I am confident that with our joint efforts, it will brave winds and waves andforge ahead toward an even brighter future.

 2014年09月，习近平作为首位访问马尔代夫的中国国家主席抵达马累，开始对马尔代夫进行国事访问。这使“丝绸之路·一带一路”上的两国关系迅速升温。
